Reissue, 50th Anniversary Remaster
Dr. Feelgood's second album saw the Canvey Island four-piece sharpen their sound and dent the UK charts for the first time. Cut in 1975 at Olympic and Pye Studios with producer Vic Maile, this is the group at their leanest and most combustible-pre-punk in posture but deeply rooted in rhythm and blues. Lee Brilleaux sneers through 'Back in the Night' with a vicious snap while Wilko Johnson's serrated guitar lines slash through 'Going Back Home' like a man with a score to settle. Their take on 'Riot in Cell Block No. 9' is all barbed menace and 'Rolling and Tumbling' lands with a murky swagger. But it's the originals-like 'Don't Let Your Daddy Know' and 'You Shouldn't Call the Doctor'-that make this album bite. Rough, raw and brilliantly wired, this is pub rock as it was meant to be. There are no frills, no flab, just sweat and adrenaline on wax.
